*“The C70 70th Anniversary Vacuum Tube Preamplifier harkens back to yesteryear with an all analog design and a retro look. The glass front panel is inscribed with special McIntosh 70th Anniversary lettering.

The C70 features one 12AT7 and five 12AX7A vacuum tubes that are visible through a glass panel on the top cover. All control operations are done via knobs and rocker switches. Modern LED indicators will denote input selection and volume level. The C70 has seven inputs consisting of two balanced inputs, three unbalanced inputs, and one each of Moving Coil and Moving Magnet phono inputs. For outputs, there are two pairs each of balanced and unbalanced connections.

On the front panel, bass and treble tone controls are included and can be adjusted in 2dB increments via rotary knobs. Rotary knobs are also used to adjust the impedance and capacitance for the phono inputs. In addition to controlling the listening level, the volume knob can also adjust the relative volume balance between the left and right audio channels. A ¼” headphone jack powered by our High Drive headphone amplifier is included and features our Headphone Crossfeed Director (HXD®) technology. HXD brings added dimension to your music in a natural sounding way but can be turned off depending on your preferences. Five rocker switches are used to control the following functions: tone control on/ off; change between mono and stereo mode; HXD on/off; and to turn the independent output 1 and output 2 on/off.

The C70 sits atop a beautiful polished stainless steel chassis and features the timeless McIntosh black glass front panel, illuminated logo, control knobs, and aluminum end caps. Our Power Control technology is included with four ports that can automatically turn other connected McIntosh components such as amplifiers, CD players or turntables, on and off. To the back are the two Unity Coupled Output Transformers with the power transformer centered between them. All three transformers are housed in glass topped extruded enclosures displaying the wiring diagram for each transformer. A 70th Anniversary badge is laser engraved into the top plate of the enclosures.

The MC2152 uses eight KT88 output vacuum tubes plus eight small signal tubes comprised of four 12AX7A and four 12AT7 vacuum tubes; half of the tube complement is assigned to each audio channel. The 12AX7A vacuum tubes are for the Balanced and Input amps, while the 12AT7 tubes are for the Voltage and Driver amps. The LEDs under the eight small signal tubes can be set to three illumination settings: Off (which allows the tubes natural amber glow to be visible), Green or Blue – a new color option unique to the MC2152. Our Sentry Monitor™ technology monitors the output current and shuts the amplifier off if it ever exceeds safe limits.

On the back are both balanced and unbalanced inputs, along with our patented Solid Cinch™ speaker binding posts to securely connect your speaker cables to your speakers, and an input and output for our Power Control technology that will automatically turn other connected McIntosh components such as preamplifiers, CD players or turntables, on and off.

Compact TT-PSU Power Supply for Extreme Balance
The compact TT-PSU uses a high stability, crystal locked, low-distortion sine-wave generator. This, along with an efficient drive amplifier fed from a stabilized DC power supply, generates a 24V AC balanced signal of less than 0.05% distortion, which is completely unaffected by any changes in the mains/line voltage and conditions. This then drives the improved Rega anti-vibration circuit built into the RP8 motor PCB.
Hand-Built and Newly Improved RB808 Tonearm
The RB808 tonearm is packed with new features pushing the boundaries of tonearm design. As with all Rega tonearms, each one is meticulously hand-built by a team of highly skilled technicians. RB808 has improved bearings and a tightened spindle fit tolerance over previous models (each bearing is individually selected to find the perfect match for the chosen spindle). This is a proven method of increasing the amount of detail retrieved from the record surface. A brand-new, low-mass, precision-engineered vertical bearing assembly has been manufactured to further complement the inherent design philosophy of RP8. RB808 uses the latest Rega arm tube. Completely redesigned to redistribute mass, and further reduce stresses and resonances. This advanced design tube increases the stiffness and rigidity of the overall assembly using CAD design to blend the multiple varying tapers. Externally, Rega fitted a bespoke low-capacitance phono cable, which uses an advanced phono plug assembly. This has only two parts to minimize joints and incorporates a twist and clamp design. locking the plug to the terminal. The design increases connectivity and ensures the signal path is kept as clean as possible.
Obsessive Dual Bracing for Stability and Damping
A super-lightweight plinth combined with a double brace (mounted specifically where the increased rigidity is required) forms a structurally sound “stressed beam” assembly. This design prevents energy absorption and unwanted resonances which will add un-natural distortions to the music. RP8 takes Rega’s double brace technology to the next level. Not content with an unprecedented stiffness to mass ratio, Rega obsessively reduced any resonant properties by using two different materials for the new stressed beam. The top layer is magnesium and the bottom layer is phenolic (two of the lightest and stiffest materials available). Incorporating two different materials into the brace structure lowers their ability to pick up unwanted airborne vibrations. Simply put, different materials have different natural resonances. By using two different materials together, they decrease the natural frequency of each other by self-damping.
An Engineering Feat: The Super Flywheel Effect Triple-Layer Glass Platter
The RP8 three-piece laminated-glass platter is the result of a collaboration with a small, young British glass engineering company. As a general rule, the only part of a turntable that requires extra mass is the turntable platter in order to achieve constant rotational speed. However, a heavier platter creates more problems for the main bearing design, so again, an ideal compromise creates the best solution. This means keeping as much of the mass to the outside rim of the glass platter to create more flywheel effect but keeping the inside of the platter as light as possible without sacrificing stiffness. RP6 was the first Rega turntable to use a precision-engineered glass ring laminated to the outside using modern CNC techniques to ensure concentricity. RP8 takes it one step further by laminating three rings together to produce the RP8 super flywheel-effect glass platter.
Skeletal Plinth Features Polyolefin Foam Core
Rega has always researched methods of producing light but stiff and rigid plinths. The technology is simple: Unwanted noise at microscopic levels is developed by the turntable motor and main bearing. The plinth can also pick up airborne vibration from the music. Rega long ago pioneered the use of a stressed skin structure for the plinth. This uses two layers of phenolic resin with a lightweight particle or fiber board sandwiched between the skins. This technique has been used in many applications where stiff, light structures are needed. The current increase in interest in turntables has allowed Rega to research and develop higher technology structures for the customer that is happy pay a little more for higher sound quality. RP8 turntable utilizes a unique, new, stressed skin structure produced from thin phenolic skins sandwiching a featherweight nitrogen expanded, closed cell, polyolefin foam core. This material has been developed exclusively for Rega. The RP8 plinth is 7 times lighter than the weight of the original Planar 3 plinth.
De-Coupled Outer Frame and Dust Cover
A common problem for many skeletal design turntables is the inability to incorporate an effective dust cover. Rega constructed an outer frame that minimizes contact between the inner and outer plinth. The only points of contact are three location devices on the feet, which centralize the inner and outer plinths. This makes setup extremely easy and allows the use of a dust cover. RP8 can be used without the outer frame if desired.
24V Low-Noise Motor
The motor is a high-specification, 24V twin phase synchronous unit that has the anti-vibration circuit hand-tuned to each motor and is controlled by Rega’s unique and innovative TT-PSU. The motor drives the CNC machined pulley and sub platter/hub-bearing assembly via the belt drive.”*

*Revel F208’s low-frequency and midrange transducers feature distortion reduction mechanisms that stabilize the flux field during operation, assuring low distortion even at high listening volumes. These precision transducers utilize ribbed aluminum cones for ideal piston-like behavior that eliminates a major source of resonances that are clearly audible in most other loudspeakers. Their cast aluminum frames eliminate another source of resonances that is common in many lesser-quality loudspeakers.

These loudspeakers employ a sophisticated fluid-model designed low-frequency port with identical flares on both ends. This greatly minimizes dynamic compression and port-generated noise, assuring low-distortion low-frequency performance. The front-firing port location expands the speakers’ installation options.

The F208 tweeter has been created around a newly-designed motor and dome assembly that sets a new standard of transparency for speakers anywhere near the Performa3’s class. The tweeter’s integrated acoustic lens waveguide is based on a breakthrough mathematical approach that accurately matches the tweeter’s dispersion to that of the midrange transducer in the crossover region.

This gives the loudspeaker very smooth sound far off-axis – an important contributor to overall sound quality, providing consistent sound over an exceptionally wide listening area. In fact, this new waveguide actually increases the tweeter’s dispersion at higher frequencies.

The F208 is housed in enclosures that are similar to our flagship Ultima2 Series. These fully-curved enclosures are inherently stiffer than conventional box shapes and are formed with contiguous wood layers that prevent splitting. They feature strategically-oriented bracing that eliminates the possibility of enclosure-induced coloration.

These beautiful, modern enclosures are finished in high-gloss piano black or genuine American walnut in a process (developed and overseen by Italian luxury cabinet makers) that exceeds automotive finish quality.
The loudspeaker grilles are designed to minimize sonic diffraction or veiling and provide a clean, subtle appearance. The magnetic grille attachment method completely eliminates ugly hardware on the loudspeaker baffle, so if you decide to use the loudspeakers without grilles they will look like they were designed to be used without grilles.

“Provenance”—in the art world refers to the place of origin or history of a particular piece of art. Provenance has special meaning to Wilson Audio, in this case in exploring Wilson’s latest foray into the large speaker category. In this video, Dave and Daryl Wilson discussed the Alexx, its technologies and architecture. Together they examined Alexx’s unique relationship both to the speakers that precede it, as well as to the WAMM, with which it was co-developed. Alexx was the fourth all-new loudspeaker from Wilson in as many years, and its inception, short of the WAMM, brought more technology and innovation and experience than any previous design from any company.

Alexia’s modular design, with each of the three drivers mounted in their own individual enclosure, facilitates extremely fine adjustment within the time domain. But perhaps most importantly, it sources much of its technology directly from the enormous research-and-development reservoir of what is perhaps Wilson’s most prolific era of innovation to date. The Sasha Series 2, the Alexia, and Dave Wilson latest WAMM project have all informed Yvette’s development , in some cases, with identical components.

In conjunction with the WAMM project, Wilson Audio recently completed yet another wave of research into tweeter technology and exotic driver materials. They all fell well short of the musicality, natural resolution, and coherence of Wilson’s tweeter. The Yvette employs the MK III version of the Convergent Synergy Tweeter, which is also found in the Sasha Series 2 and the Alexx. The MK III features Wilson’s latest thinking on rear-wave diffraction and ultra-low resonance rear chambers. It mates seamlessly with Wilson’s proprietary midrange driver.

The enclosure is built primarily from two Wilson-developed composites: the third generation of X-Material, an extremely well-damped and inert composite, and S-Material, which was developed for exquisite midrange performance.
